Day 16 - A Day of Transition with a Hint of Medieval History to Come

Today was a transition day. They're always hard. We had really fallen in love with Lisbon, its old world buildings, history, and friendly people.

Today we took an easyjet flight to Lyon in France and continued on the TGV, their high speed train to here in Avignon. Though our connections were seamless, we didn't arrive until 9:00 pm and our hotel was locked up tight for the night. Under normal circumstances this wouldn't be a problem, but this is bank holiday weekend and all hotels are full. With no phone and no car our options were limited. Fortunately a desk clerk at a nearby four star hotel that was fully booked made a couple of calls and was able to secure a room for the night at the Mercure Hotel right in the shadows on the Pope's Palace.

With just enough time to have a light dinner at an outdoor cafe, we walked around and took some photos. We'll explore this city tomorrow.

What a bummer to have no place to stay after a long day of travel. It was good that you were able to find a place to sleep.

We decided that the place we found was so centrally located that with my foot we decided to stay here a second night.
